The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority’s (VTA) design-build Berryessa BART Station is the second stop in the 10.2-mile first-phase of the BART to San Jose extension. The Berryessa Station offers connections to bus and light rail that serve many of the major employers in the area.
As the architect for the design team, FMG produced the bridging documents for the project including the specification of all finishes and materials. The firm was part of the design-build team completing documentation for the Berryessa Station and ancillary structures. The new station campus includes a multi-story parking structure, bus transit center, BART Police Facility and BRT feeder bus route improvements.
Taking cues from a nearby creek and the mountains that lie beyond the station, the design team aesthetically integrated many aspects of the natural surroundings. The curving canopy has a support structure that is detailed like tree branches. Glass, open mesh panels and clear sight lines, offer a feeling of openness, continuity and safety. The concourse level with the main entry plaza design reinforces seamless connectivity to the area surrounding the intermodal transit station.
