San Francisco City Hall Renovation

San Francisco City Hall, designed in 1915 by Bakewell & Brown, features one of the most significant domed structures in the world and is one of the finest examples of Renaissance revival architecture in the United States. FMG Architects, as part of a joint venture, directed the interior redesign, renovation, and restoration of this historic yet aging facility. One of the biggest challenges was to rework the building’s details and finishes to more accurately express the original interior. FMG established methods for the removal, cataloging, warehousing, and reinstallation of the architectural elements and materials, as well as designed architectural treatments to accommodate lower ceiling heights and utility requirements.
